B Grade & Premier C Grade Match Day Results November 16th

18th November 2024

C Grade bounced back strongly from their first loss of the campaign, easily dispatching of Rovers for the second time this season, whilst B Grade’s 4 game win came to an abrupt halt at the hands of Imperials. The day also saw Craig Veenman tick over 8000 club runs.

 B Grade –  Imperials v Moe

Imperials Inning’s-

Much changed line ups since their first meeting. Imperials batted first again, last time posting 108, this time getting towards double that total, scoring 189 in almost the full allotted overs. Trent Paulet top-scored with 51, after surviving a big caught behind shout on 3. He was supported by Dean Campbell (35), Jordan Anderson (34) & Aaron Donoghue (29) who all made valuable contributions to the total. Hayden Edwards cleaned up the tail after an economical first spell, finishing with stellar figures of 4/5 off 8.2. Bailey Wilson (0/15 off 4) was the only other bowler to go at under 4 an over. Mark Whitney (2/36 off 9) & Ritvik (1/17 off 4) went at or around the 4 mark, whilst Daniel Farmer (1/52 off 9) Ben McCartney (1/53 off 9) were a bit more expensive, but each picked up a wicket.

Moe Inning’s-

After Braden Finn (24) & Jesse Pheeney (16) got the Lions to 1/54, the chase fell in a heap. Moe lost 6/4 (Finn, Pheeney, Micallef (0), Wilson 1, Ritvik (0), G.Edwards (0) to be effectively resigned to defeat at 7/58. Youngsters Ben McCartney (17) & Hayden Edwards (34) batted very well to gain respectability and save too much pain to the Lions percentage, pushing the total to 117. Wickets were shared around for Imps, Anderson & Jarvis taking 2 each, 2 run outs, and singles to Donoghue, Hegarty & Bermingham.

Moe drop behind Imperials to 4th but sit still just one game behind top.

Premier C Grade –  Rovers v Moe

Moe easily defeated Rovers for a second time this season, this time at Old Trafford, the secondary ground at the Traralgon Recreation Reserve.

Moe Inning’s-

Moe won the toss and batted, then proceeded to hit out at a strong pace. The Lions posted 4/226 from their 40 overs, almost a run a ball. Randy Straughair (13) & Shannon Murphy (25) got starts whilst Ryley Semmens (45) & Jim Keltie (44), the latter playing for the first time in a long time, fell just short of half centuries. Craig Veenman (60*) didn’t have that problem and ticked over 8000 club runs the moment he hit fifty. Veeno now sits on 8010, just 29 runs off moving past Al Philip into 3rd all time for Moe. David Biggins 27* was unbeaten with Veenman at the other end. Steve Carney, the other half of the husband/wife duo was the only bowler to take multiple wickets (2/23).

Rovers Inning’s-

Rovers only managed just short of half of the total required, bowled out for 110 in reply. Ben Nicholls top scored with 46 whilst Carney 15, Canning 13 & Brain 12 got starts. Brady Cake (2/23 off 8.) dismissed both openers, whilst Aiden Savige (1/58 off 7) & Biggins, an economical 1/10 off 6 each got a scalp, Biggins dismissing Nicholls. Ronnie Whitney (3/6 off 5) dispatched of the middle order before Trent Simpson (1/7) & Frank Manduci (2/2) took care of the tail.

Moe move to 2nd on the Premier C ladder. Toongabbie sit undefeated on top, Moe face them in 2 weeks after CATS away next up.
