U10’s
Blues– picked up a win over Morwell Stars, went down to Toongabbie on the final ball and lost the Mo-Clash thriller to the Maroons
Maroons – I will results & picture once have the Imperials & Ex Students results. The Maroons beat the Blues in the first Mo-Clash in a long time.
Both teams are progressing well and enjoying their cricket. Great to see.
U12’s–
The 12’s had one of their closest matches against Morwell, going down by 11 runs. Logan (10*) & Jarryd (9rt) Mobourne top scored with the bat & Lachie Savige took 1/10.
Boolarra took a comfortable win courtesy of Rainer O’Brien’s 48*. Dylan & Kaleb Grose, Thomas Daly & Eliza Boothman all took a wicket each. Eliza (4) top scored with the bat in Moe’s innings.
The game against Willow Grove was abandoned due to heat policy.
The team continue to grow week by week.
U14’s–
The U14’s are tracking the strongest of the junior sides in terms of ladder position and took 2 more wins in December, to sit 5th, 3pts behind the top 4.
The Lions were sent in against Morwell, and posted a whopping 197. Adrien Nardone top scored with 41, with Henry Boothman (34*rt) & Blake Savige (26*rt) retired with strong scores. Darby Higgins also made 21. The following week, Morwell were bowled out for 81. Noah Keltie took a brilliant 4/9 with Brooklyn Fife, Logan Walsh, Nardone & Corey O’Brien all taking one wicket. Conner Gray (29) & Austin Shirreff (15) were the Tigers best.
It was the Nardone show again with the bat against Gormandale with Adrien posting 34*. Corey O’Brien & Blake Savige each made 8, the latter unbeaten. I did put up a post for this one at the time, Blake Savige was unbelievable with the ball, taking 5/7, three bowled, a caught & bowled and one caught by Nardone. Brooklyn Fife & Tyler Goyne each took one wicket. The Lions won by 12 runs.
U16’s–
The 16’s still are playing with less players than their opponents each week but continuing to fight it out.
It was a tough game against Willow Grove who won the toss and batted, with 12 named but only 8 players batting. Moe took 2 early wickets to reduce them to 2/2. Dylan Van Der Stoep 124* and Darcy Walsh 84 battered the undermanned Lions about, the latter retiring and returning once the rest of the Wolves were out. Eventually they closed at 7 out all out for 267 off 37.1 overs. Henry Boothman took 3 wickets for Moe. Moe made 7 out all out for 72, Wyatt Addison making 30. Nick Sallee took 3 wickets for the Wolves.
Moe went down by 50 to Raiders in the T20. Tyler Duff took two wickets with the ball. Kye Micallef top scored with 38* and Cooper Addison filled in with 16.
The Sunday one day game against Toongabbie was abandoned.
As I put on each of these posts, the future looks bright as long as they all stick around through the ages and into senior cricket . Go The Mo !!!
Wednesday December 18th- Standout Performance
Last night’s U14’s got the win over Gormandale, which included Blake Savige taking a stellar 5/7 off 3.5 overs, including a hat trick. Blake took the first two wickets of the innings early in the night, before the final over saw a run out followed by Savige taking his 3rd, 4th & 5th wickets in consecutive deliveries.
3 of his 5 wickets disturbed the furniture, one was caught in the field and another caught by himself off of his own bowling.
Congratulations Blake!
Tuesday Dec 17th @ Ted Summerton Reserve
Last night the two Moe U10’s teams faced off, getting to play on the hallowed turf of Ted Summerton Reserve. This is the first time in a long time that we’ve had two Moe teams in the same age group.
The game was played in high spirits and with good sportsmanship displayed throughout. In the end, Coach Philip’s Moe Maroons took a narrow 74-71 win over Coach Sheekey’s Moe Blues.
The teams will take to Ted Summerton again in Mo-Clash 2, in their final game of the season on February 25.
Under 10’s
Both Maroons & Blues are travelling strongly and yet to face defeat. Maroons are 4-0, Blues 3 wins & a washout from 4.
Three games to come in December highlighted by the Blues v Maroons on Ted Summerton Dec 17.
Due to a few out for injuries, change of interest etc. we do have a couple of spots available for 10’s aged kids.
Under 12’s
Still chasing that elusive first win but trying hard week in, week out.
Under 14’s
Sitting 6th at 2-2. Two games to play in December. Logan Walsh leading the way stats wise.
Under 16’s
Still need extra personnel in 16’s, relying on fill in’s and 14’s, and still playing short. Know anyone? Get in touch. 3 games in December, including this Sunday hosting leaders Toongabbie.
U16’s have gradually improved week on week. Cake & Micallef lead the way with the bat, whilst Duffy is leading the wickets tally. We are still playing with a few fill-in’s from U14’s. If you know of any kids aged in this bracket interested in cricket, get them involved.
U14’s split their first couple of games, with a win and loss following a bye. Logan Walsh leads the runs with wickets shared around.
U12’s unfortunately forfeited round 1 due to school camp unavailability. Round 2 they tried hard and never gave up against a strong Willow Grove side.
U10’s – both teams have had a bye, and defeated Morwell’s Renegades side in their first two weeks (no statistical trophies at league level in this grade, coaches Sheekey & Philip are keeping track for mid year & end of year updates).
Great to see the Lions future thriving with 5 juniors sides for the first time in a long time
As distributed at last week’s juniors night, please see the key details for the junior sides.
We had a great turnout and numbers are looking strong for 10/12/14’s. A few more 16’s would be great. Unfortunately not enough interest to get Women’s or girls comp sides up for this year, we’ll try again next season. These junior sides (and senior teams) are mixed, so girls are welcome to join in these teams.
14’s & 16’s training commences tonight.
Junior Blasters details coming soon for those below the 10’s age group (or within the 10’s ages and not wanting to play competitively just yet)
A big individual honour was also presented after Sunday’s Grand Final, with Blake Savige taking out the Cricket Latrobe Valley U14’s League Bowling Average and Aggregate.
Some of these numbers are just phenomenal. Congratulations Blake!!
Home & Away Season:
* Wickets: 16
* Average: 4.00
* Overs Bowled – 30.4
* Runs Against – 64
* Strike Rate (balls bowled per wicket) – 11.5
* Economy Rate (runs conceded per over) – 2.1
Including Finals :
19 Wickets @ 5.47 including finals
Moe Innings Part 1 (20 overs – 5/51)
The Lions lost their top order in their first period. A run out with Moe’s top two run scorers for the season at the crease (Noah Keltie out for 8.) hurt as it started a 4/12 collapse fell from 1/33 to 5/45. Kye Micallef top scored with 24. Adrian Nardone & Blake Savige we’re not out at the interval. Bastin & Hart-Theissling had two wickets each for the Sharks with the latter also involved in the run out.
Ex Students Innings Part 1 (3/80 off 20), & Part 2 (finished 9/179 off 40)
Ex Students innings took place across both sides of the lunch break. Bastin 50* retired not out and Graham 39 took the game away from the Lions as they posted 179. Cooper (12rt) & Hazelman (11) also made double figures. Wickets were shared around for the Lions with 7 bowlers all taking 1 wicket each (Bietman 1/9, Shields 1/11, Micallef 1/14, Boothman 1/17, Nicholson 1/17, O’Brien 1/19, Cake 1/36). Micallef & Boothman also got a run out each.
Moe Inning: Part 2 (finished 10/84)
Moe needed 129 runs from 120 balls the second period, which was always going to be far too much to ask. Just 5 wickets in hand and a bowling attack, we’ll rested since their first stint with the ball. The period of play saw the remaining 5 wickets for 33 runs to be all out for 84, going down by 95 runs. Nardone finished with 13 and Blake Savige 8. Bastin finished with 3/8 whilst Kerr 2/5 took two late wickets
A disappointing end to a great season by our 14’s. A good crop of kids coming through with a few already playing seniors too. Well done all on the year that was and we hope to see you at presentation on Friday night.
U14’s – Grand Final Bound!!
Our U14’s have beaten Centrals today to advance to next week’s Grand Final.
Moe batted first and in the format the juniors run, batted 20 of their 40 over innings first. Centrals then bat their full 40 in 2 parts separated by the lunch break, before Moe bat their second 20 overs.
MOE INN (Part 1)
Moe lost an early wicket (Shields 4) before posting a strong 2/92 from their first 20. Kye Micallef made 26 off 54 balls whilst Noah Keltie was 35* and Darby Higgins 4* at the changeover. Gamage & Pettie each had a wicket for the Centrals Lions.
CENTRALS INN (Part 1 & 2)
Keltie (1/11 off 5) & Brady Cake (1/20 off 7) each took an opening scalp in back to back overs to have the hosts 2/15. Rajapakse (16), Dissanayake (14) & Speairs (20) added 48 across two partnerships with one loss – Dissanayake to Blake Savige – before Micallef took two wickets in two balls just before the break to have Centrals sitting precariously at 5/67 off 20 at lunch.
It was slow going for Speairs and Howlett (3) adding 16 from 7 overs after the break before Adrian Nardone (1/15 off 3) got the 6th wicket. Davidson (1) became Savige’s second scalp the following over. Speairs & Pettie (9*) added 16 for the 8th wicket before Savige (3/16) dismissed Speairs. A Sam Shields run out (Thow 0) became yet another case in the scorecard of a wicket falling the over following the previous dismissal. Extras top scored with 26.
Centrals closed 9 out all out for 101 from 32.2 overs, setting Moe 10 runs to win off 20 overs, with 8 wickets in hand.
MOE INN (Part 2) – Resuming at 2/92.
3 runs to Keltie & 4 extras saw Moe move to 2/99 before Higgins (4) became Gamage’s (2/25) second scalp. Keltie (38 off 65) deserved a red ink, but fell on the first ball of the following over to Speairs, caught by Davidson. Speairs was then on a hat trick, with O’Brien gone first ball, caught by Howlett and Moe had lost 3/0 to be 5/99. Blake Savige (0*) survived the hat trick before Brady Cake (4*) wrapped up proceedings with a boundary at the other end, and announcing Moe as U14 Grand Finalists. Speairs and Gamage took two wickets each for Centrals.
Congratulations to Centrals on a great season themselves finishing the H&A season in 2nd and thanks for their hospitality hosting today’s match.
Moe proceed to play either Ex Students or Boolarra on the Labour Day Public Holiday Monday at Latrobe’s Maryvale Reserve.
Well done boys! Go The Mo!
Juniors Final H&A Results
U14’s will be playing finals. Lost to minor premiers Ex Students but capped off the H&A campaign with a strong win over Glengarry, highlighted by Noah Keltie’s second half century of the season.
Finish 3rd and will play Centrals this Sunday, 3rd March 10am at St Paul’s in Traralgon. One prior meeting on Feb 7, which Centrals won by 8 wickets with a couple of overs to spare in a T20, but the teams haven’t played against each other in a 40 over match yet. If Moe win, the final will be at Maryvale #2 on Labour Day (Mon 11 Mar).
U12’s finished with a harsh loss to minor premiers Raiders. Brooklyn Fife (10* & 2 wickets) was best with bat and ball for the Lions
U16’s also felt the heat in the last 2 games, against the Top 2 teams on the ladder. Kye Micallef (17 & 15) and Brady Cake (18*) got starts with the bat. Aiden Savige took a hard earned 4/31 v Centrals with the ball.
Proud of all our juniors efforts for the season. For the U12’s & U16’s not playing seniors, we hope to see you next season.
