B GRADE: Thorpdale v Moe
THORPDALE INNING
Moe travelled to Thorpdale hoping to get revenge for the heist the Blues pulled earlier in the season in their two run win. Thorpdale again batted first. Josh Pickering (0/7 off 6) & Daniel Farmer (0/20 off 9) started off economically despite being unable to get the breakthrough. Pickering had former Lion Kayne O’Connell dropped in slips twice. Aaron Johnstone (1/9 off 9) was supreme and got the first breakthrough of O’Connell, bowled for 23 (1/38). James Durkin (30) & Cougar Millson (12) batted for 12 overs, adding 27 before Millsom became Bailey Wilson’s first scalp of the day. Wilson got his second wicket in his third over (Ferguson 5, 3/77). Jordan Shields got in on the act to dismiss Durkin at 4/93. Starting with the 5th wicket at 106, Shields & Wilson caused Thorpdale to lose 6/7 over a six over period to be all out for 113, two balls short of the allotted 45 overs. Wilson claimed a brilliant 5-wicket haul with 5/26 (8.4) to take the headlines whilst Shields was also excellent with 4/22 off 7. A great bowling performance all round from the Lions.

MOE INNING
When chasing 69 four weeks ago, Moe had got to 1/42 before losing 9/25 to be all out for 67 including the last 3 wickets for just 2 runs to go down by 2 runs. Could the Lions exact revenge chasing 114?
Randy Straughair (15) & Jesse Pheeney (15) gave the Lions a great platform with a 44 run opening stand, leaving 71 to win when Straughair was first dismissed. The Lions lost 3/5 with Straughair, Pheeney & Micallef 🦆 all dismissed in quick succession. From there, Jarryd Atkinson (19) became the mainstay and only other batsman to reach double figures for the rest of the innings as the Lions collapse went from 3/5 to 6/20 to eventually 10/40, losing the last 3 wickets for 3 runs. Moe all out for 84 in 30.2 overs, extras top scoring with 23 in a batting card featuring 4 ducks. Matt Powell was the chief destroyer with 6/18 from 9 overs whilst Kayne O’Connell picked up two wickets.
C GRADE – Morwell vs Moe
MOE INNING
Moe batted first and it was a low scoring cautious approach from Chris De Vent (9 off 37) & Mustafa Glibanovic (5 off 22). Shannon Murphy added 23 before being run out at 3/53. Ben Jackson was the main contributor scoring 51 whilst partners fell around him. Under 16’s Max Moroney on his senior debut was the only other batsman to make double figures, scoring 12. Moe were all out for 119 from their full 40 overs with Monds, Cheffers & Kays taking 2 wickets each.
MORWELL INNING
Hayden Edwards got the opening breakthrough of Mark Wynne (14) at 1/17. Ron Whitney did Ronnie things, customary economical figures of 1/18 off his 8 overs, picking up the wicket of Gniel (7). Johnson (6) fell to Mustafa Glibanovic at 3/39 to give Moe a sniff. Cheffers (11) was run out by De Vent and Glibanovic picked up a second wicket (Francis 17) to make it 5/66, with still 54 runs required. Unfortunately that’s as good as it got for the Lions as Kays (44* off 48) & Smith (17* off 22) attacked and scored freely off Moe’s young bowlers, putting on an unbeaten partnership of 61* off 62 balls to win the game for the Tigers 5/127 (28). An injury during batting and a player requiring to leave early for work (understandably) meant the Lions finished with 9 in the field which made the total even more difficult to defend.
