Last match report of the home & away season.
Toongabbie v Moe
Moe (3rd) travelled to Toongabbie (2nd) and Mirboo North (4th) played Ex-Students (1st) so there was a very real possibility that the last round matches could repeat a week later. If Moe were to defeat Toongabbie, they would host the Rams a week later. If Moe lost and Mirboo North won, Moe would travel to Ex-Students.
Toongabbie won the toss and batted.
Toongabbie Innings
Garry Edwards (1/7) got Moe off to a flyer with McGown (2) lbw. 1/7. Hood & Elms added 26 for the second pairing before Ronnie Whitney (2/29) dismissed Hood (7) and Chalmers (6) in quick succession for 3/39. Elms & Wall added 21 for the 4th pairing.
Then the game turned, from 3/60, Moe took 7/36 to roll the home side for 96 (29.2). Ben McCartney dismissed both Elms (26) & Wall (22) on his way to 3/18 (7). No other batters reach double figures. Matt Burridge (1/34 off 8.) took a wicket, Edwards got a run out and Noah Keltie (2/2 off 1.2) took the last 2 wickets.
Moe Innings
Randy Straughair (16) & Shannon Murphy (16) gave the visitors a starting platform knocking over almost a third of the total before Straughair was out to Veale. Mustafa Glibanovic was bowled by Veale moments later.
Murphy was run out at 3/49 which started a collapse of 4/17, with Semmens , Schultz 1 & Veenman 28 also dismissed.
Now 6/66, Moe required 31 to win with u14’s Noah Keltie & Ben McCartney at the crease. The pair added 27, McCartney with the majority of the scoring off the next 7 overs to bring within 4 of victory. McCartney fell for 18 to make it 7 down with 4 to win. Edwards hit a single, then Keltie (15*) did what all kids aspire to do, smashed a 6 to win the game. Amazing.
Moe by 3 wickets in 26.5 overs. Pearson finished with 3/25 for the Rams, Veale 2/22 & Zalesiak 1/11.
The sides meet again at Moe next week.
