Imperials vs Moe
Although they’ll still be relying on other results even if they win all remaining games, Imperials kept their season alive on Saturday, defeating Moe at Jack Maskrey Oval.
Moe sent the hosts in and were made to pay, by one batsman in particular. Ryley Reid (5), Ricky Martin (19) & Keira Morley (23) played supporting roles through the partnerships whilst Ashley Spowart put on a show.
Reid fell to Edwards and Morley to Biggins whilst in between, Martin was Stuie Palmer’s 50th club wicket. Congrats Stuie!
Spowart reached his maiden ton before being bowled by Biggins at 4/171. Out for 110 with 78 of those in boundaries (15 fours, 3 sixes). Marcus Twomey (32) was the only score of significance that followed as the tail knocked the score up to 8/223 from their 40 overs. Dave Biggins (3/36 off 7) & Ronnie Whitney (3/40 off 8.) claimed 3 each with Edwards & Palmer getting 1. Burridge (0/26 off 2) & Cake (0/58 off 8.) felt the wrath of the small oval.
On most days, posting 4.5 runs an over would win games in C’s. Unfortunately, chasing 224 to win, it was 44 runs short. Moe posted 9/180 from their 40 overs, with a batting card full of starts.
7 batsmen posted double figures but none were able to reach a half century or more to significantly combat Spowart’s earlier effort (Randy Straughair 16, Jim Keltie 34, Biggins 11, Noah Keltie 29, Edwards 17, Frank Manduci 36* & Ron Whitney 11).
Lachlan Sykes claimed 3/32 & Harry Martin took 2/14 for the hosts.
SENIOR DEBUT – Noah Keltie made his senior debut in this match and looked right at home, scoring 29 runs. To make it special, Jim played alongside him in their first father/son appearance for the club and spent the 5th wicket pairing together at the crease. Congratulations Noah!
Moe remain 3rd, 2pts behind Toongabbie & now 8pts behind Students. Moe sit 8pts clear of 5th placed Imperials having missed the chance to go 2nd and secure finals qualification with 2 weeks left. Still need one victory to guarantee finals or it will come down to quotient/percentage if they lose the remaining two and Imps win both. Toongabbie have a forfeit win next week so will hold 2nd until the final round. If Moe lose to Glengarry next week, Toongabbie will finish 2nd. If Moe defeat Glengarry, the final round match between Toongabbie & Moe will be for 2nd and a home semi final.
