Premier A Grade – Glengarry 10/205 def by Moe 10/231
Moe travelled to Glengarry with a new look side hoping to capitalise on line up with Frank Marks & Nat Freitag among their absentees.
Moe were sent in but lost wickets in regular intervals with the first 4 wickets seeing no batsman score above 11 (4/67). After 3 seasons as skipper, with a new captain in town, Noah Kane looked at ease solely back in the keeper/batsman role, posting a career high 91 from 100 balls, including 10 fours and 2 sixes. The wait for a maiden ton goes on as he was trapped lbw at 8/213. Callum Grant added 30 in a 112 5th wicket stand with Kane. Moe ended up all out in the final over for 231. The scalps were shared around for the Magpies with Waack-Hawkins, Duncan, Marks & Mayberry each collecting 2.
After a 43 run opening stand, skipper Mat Hibbs got the breakthrough (Graham 14). A no-shot bowled on Hodson’s first ball saw Grant get his first wicket back on Australian soil. Hibbs took another before Brady Cake took his debut A Grade wicket, Cochrane caught behind for 4. Mayberry (30 off 25) took to Cake in a 66 run stand with Marks before quick wickets to Colgrave & McCartney turned the game in the Lions favour once more. Jay Francis (36) gave the hosts one last crack before Ritvik Mahajan claimed two late wickets to see Moe home by 26 runs.
65 extras including 47 wides was a big concern for the Lions but ultimately a hard earned win to start the season.
