🦁 Premier A Grade – Moe v Glengarry (Day 1)

Moe won the toss and batted at Burrage. Rob Phoenix returned for the first time this campaign and partnered Callum Grant at the top. Grant faced two thirds of the first 15 overs with both batters on similar scores when Graham got the breakthrough, disturbing Phoenix’s furniture for 27 (1/50). Andrew Philip added 28 in a 66 run stand with Grant before both were dismissed in quick succession. Grant out for a boundary-less 65 off 159, with value for shots not on offer on a slow field.

Benn Zomer & Mathew Hibbs took the hosts largely through the remainder of the afternoon and past the 200 mark, both falling late in the piece in the 40’s (Zomer 49, Hibbs 43), much to the ‘fines master’ Frank Manduci’s delight. Anubhav (17*) & Jordan Shields (5*) are unbeaten at stumps.

Moe 5/237 from 89 overs. As mentioned, boundaries were hard to come by, with just 8 fours for the day (Phoenix had 4 of them), making the highlights package to come either really short or harder work for admin to filter the day’s play for some good shots for 2’s and 3’s. Graham, Jenkin, Mayberry, S.Marks & Waack-Hawkins all took one wicket each for the Magpies on a long day in the field.

Play resumes next Saturday 8th November

🦁 Premier B Grade – Moe v Boolarra

One of just a couple of games B Grade play on the Racecourse and after electing to bat on a belter of a wicket, found themselves very quickly in trouble at 4 down for 13. Openers Johnstone & Oakley were bowled by Hoy without scoring and Micallef & Atkinson out for just a solitary run each to Urbanic & Hoy respectively. Evan Sheekey (21) offered a little resistance before he and Whitney (6) both fell with the score on 31. Ritvik (24) & Ryley Semmens (12) doubled the teams total before a further 4/10 collapse saw the tail gone and Moe dismissed for just 72. Jarrod Hoy was phenomenal with 3/10 off 9 and Stan Urbanic added 3 late wickets to his early one for 4 wickets for just 5 runs from 9 overs.

Ben McCormack (26) did all the early scoring with youngster Oscar O’Brien holding up an end early. McCormack got squared up by Farmer (ct. Micallef) to be the first scalp. Jarryd Atkinson had Micallef taking another catch to dismiss Hoy (9) and it was quickly followed by Rob Blunt dismissing Glen Smith (1) caught behind by Curtis to make it 3/40 and a little nervy for the visitors for just a moment. Lachlan Smith had a little luck on his side early before hitting some nice cover drives on his way to 21*. O’Brien (10* off 53) batted out the innings in a great showing by the junior player.

Boolarra get their first win of the season, leaving Moe at the bottom of the ladder with their fellow promoted side from last season, Centrals as the only other winless team.

Moe face 5th placed CATS away next week before Centrals away the week after.
