Matchday Review – A Grade (Nov 19 vs Boolarra)

28th November 2022

Due to the WBBL at Ted Summerton, Moe had another home game at the Racecourse, this time against Jeeralang-Boolarra. It was a drizzly afternoon and to both teams & the umpire’s credit, play continued through light to moderate rain in the effort to achieve a result, conscious that if play was stopped due to rain, it would need to be completely clear to restart.

Boolarra Innings

Moe won the toss and sent the Panthers in. It was slow going for Boolarra, going consistently at 2 runs per over throughout the opening period. Royce Colgrave (2/21 off 10) snagged the early wickets and a run out from Bailey Wilson, finished by Noah Kane made it 3/23. Clint Taylor (0/9 from 6) was economical.

A.Ranthilakage (33) & Thillekarathna (24) saw off the first change bowlers of Bailey Wilson (0/15 off 6) & Robert Blunt (0/14 off 5) before Kane turned to his spinners. Callum Grant (2/17 off 10) & Jarryd Atkinson (2/35 off 10) bowled out the majority of the innings from that point, with Edirisinghe (39) the only remaining notable score, although survived a number of dropped catches on his way to that total. Ash Savige (1/13 off 3) closed the innings at the Apex Park end. Boolarra closed on 8/128 (50).

Moe Bowling – R.Colgrave 2/21 (10) – C.Taylor 0/9 (6) – B.Wilson 0/15 (6) – R.Blunt 0/14 (5) – C.Grant 2/17 (10) – J.Atkinson 2/35 (10) – A.Savige 1/13 (3)

Moe Innings

Moe’s run chase started cautiously by Riley Baldi & Noah Kane before kicking on once they got their eye-in. The Lions were well ahead on DLS and once 20 overs was passed, a result was guaranteed regardless of rain. Boolarra had no answers for the Baldi/Kane, using 9 bowlers, taking until bowler number 8 (Ben Heath) to break the pairing at 1/124 with just 5 runs required. Baldi was bowled for 63 (87) by Heath and Callum Grant (1 off 2) via the same method four balls later. Kane (53 off 83) was bowled by Ranthilakage with scores tied. Royce Colgrave (3* off 3) ramped Heath to fine leg to cap off the win, 3 down, in 29.1 overs.

Moe will return to Ted Summerton Reserve to face Trafalgar who are coming off a dominant DLS victory over Morwell.
