Well, that’s one way to break a drought!
Having never beaten Churchill since the LVDCL merger from 5 attempts in one day or two day cricket, Moe have travelled to the Cobras’ home and taken all the points with an outright victory! It wasn’t without its hurdles though.
Churchill 1st Innings: 72 all out
Keighran 27, Grant 4/9, Blunt 2/7, Colgrave 2/14, Phoenix 2/16
Moe 1st Innings: 132 all out
Philip 71, Williams 4/4, Keighran 3/45, Warr 2/18
Churchill 2nd innings: 123 (61)
Churchill started their 2nd innings to start Day 2. After falling to 3/3 on Day 1, they were always likely to start better. M.Harvey (12) & Velardi (24) got starts before the former was caught & bowled by Royce Colgrave (1/14). Aaron Johnstone (1/19) bowled Parker (7) and Clint Taylor dismissed R.Harvey (2) to get the Lions rolling. Taylor (2/22) picked up his 2nd wicket with Cluderay caught by Shields. Warr (6) was lbw for the second time in the match, this one being Rob Phoenix’s 250th senior wicket at Moe. Phoenix (2/19) picked up a second scalp and Callum Grant took 3/36 to take his tally to 7/45 for the match. Churchill all out for 123 and a target of 64 to win was set.
Milestone: Rob Phoenix – 250 Club Senior Wickets (using 5 wickets to 100 run equivalent, this is effectively the same as 5000 club runs, which is also a milestone he is not far off with the bat).
Moe 2nd Innings: 4/64 (18.1)
Skipper Noah Kane was first to fall, for 5 to Harvey. Andrew Philip was trapped in front by Harvey the very next ball and it was 2/9. Jesse Pheeney (6) was bowled by Williams and Phoenix (2) adjudged lbw to the same bowler saw Moe in strife at 4/24. Riley Baldi (31* off 39) & Callum Grant (13* off 33) stabilised the ship and got the Lions through to an outright victory.
