Matchday Review 10/2 & 17/2:
PREMIER A GRADE – Day 2 v Toongabbie
Toongabbie 1st Innings:
Toongabbie resumed at 2/12 (9), chasing Moe’s 5d/334. A slow start for the Rams, as they added 3 runs in the first six overs before Aaron Johnstone trapped Ryan (3) lbw. Barry (0) was next to go, bowled by Phoenix for a 53-ball duck. Phoenix took a second scalp (McIlroy 1) before Benn Zomer took wickets 6 & 7 which saw the visitors 7/65 and staring down the prospect of batting again imminently. Pickles (43) & Keenan Hughes (35* off 23) delayed the second innings for a little bit as they put on 40 in just 5 overs. Pickles holed out Royce Colgrave in the deep off Callum Grant to break that stand. Colgrave dismissed Moran (5) & Grant had another outfield catch off his bowling taken by Shields (Hood 0) to close Toongabbie’s first innings on 121. Grant took 3/33, with Phoenix 2/16, Zomer 2/19, Johnstone 2/24 & Colgrave 1/18 sharing the wickets around.
Toongabbie 2nd Innings:
The Rams second knock went much better than their first, posting 6/217 from 50 overs before stumps was called. Pickles (2) opened and fell to Johnstone early. Broad (8) was next to go. D.Barry 27, Chalmers 30, Stoddart 44 all got decent starts for the visitors. Hughes 62 off just 43 continued his strong form with 203 runs now from his past 4 hits, with 2 not out’s, including the first innings 35*. Moran 27* & McIlroy 11* were still unbeaten when the game was declared, Moe winning on first innings only. Phoenix took 2/28 whilst Aaron Johnstone took 2/56, which included his 200th Moe senior wicket . Barry was caught by Andrew Philip off Johnstone, which was Philip’s 150th 1st XI catch. Callum Grant & Clinton Taylor each took one wicket.
Summary:
A big result for the Lions taking them back up to 3rd and now solely in the race for finals, safe from relegation. A bye on Saturday/Sunday Premier A Grade round before CATS at home to close the H&A season.
