Day 1 – vs Ex-Students
Moe won the toss and batted.
It was a slow grind to start the day, with Noah Kane (5) & Andrew Philip (8.) each falling for single digit scores on their 37th delivery faced. Moe were 2/26 at this point before Josh Keyhoe & Riley Baldi added 29 for the 3rd wicket. Baldi’s second run of his 11 scored was his 1500th in First Grade cricket.
Benn Zomer (15) & Keyhoe saw the Lions through to the lunch break. Zomer was next to go after the interval before the 5th wicket stand Lions was their biggest partnership for the day. Keyhoe notched up his first A Grade half century for the campaign (adding to 1 century & 2 unbeaten fifties in B’s) at a great time as he & Rob Phoenix put on 73 runs to get Moe to 4/152 from 73 overs.
With 12 overs to go and wickets in the shed, ideally at 4 an over, not unreasonable, the total would be a flat 200, so this surely was the target.
From overs 74-80 however, things got a bit ugly. Ball 73.1 saw Keyhoe dismissed for a stellar hard earned 81 off a whopping 209 deliveries. From there it was a capitulation of 5/5 from 7 overs, losing Keyhoe, Evan Sheekey (1), Callum Grant (0), Phoenix (33) and Aaron Johnstone (0).
Paddy Spiteri (8*) & Clint Taylor (7) added 16 for the last wicket from the remaining 5 overs, Taylor dismissed on the final ball of the day.
For the Sharks, Mitch Harris was phenomenal, taking 3/9 off 13 overs, ably supported by James Pryde (3/42 off 16), Michael Warne (1/19 off 10) and Lee Stockdale (1/47 off 28).
