PREMIER B – vs Glengarry (A)
The Lions travelled to Glen and batted first after winning the toss. Moe lost Mustafa Glibanovic early before Randy Straughair (46) & Ben Jackson (34) put on 79 for the 2nd wicket, seeing the innings through to the 20th over. From their the second half of the innings stuttered through to 136 all out with only Redman (14), McCartney (10) & Edwards (12) making double figures, the latter two youngsters putting on the second biggest partnership (17) of the innings for the last wicket. 4 ducks on the batting card which will please fines master Frankie, if only him. Cochrane & Hodson took 3 wickets each for the Magpies.
Daniel Farmer picked up an early scalp (P.Henry 8.) to have Glengarry 1/9. S.Henry (47) & Clark (17) added 44 for the 2nd stand before Jarryd Atkinson (1/24) took his 75th club 2nd XI wicket. Mark Whitney (1/28) quickly followed it up, dismissing Cochrane at make it 3/54 from 24 overs when Ashleigh Hodson joined Steve Henry at the crease, needing 83 from 126 balls. The pair added 47 from the next 11 overs before Henry was dismissed by Farmer (2/20) in his second spell. The equation now had the Magpies ahead needing 36 off 60. 24 runs followed off the next 5 overs and it was just 12 required off the last 5. Power hitting in the 41st over brought up Hodson’s half century (53*) and 22 runs off the over saw Glengarry 11 runs ahead with 4 overs to spare.
PREMIER C – vs Mirboo North (H)
Mirboo North won the toss and sent the hosts in. Brady Cake made his senior debut with father Paul making a comeback alongside.
The batting total was thankful for Cake Sr. as the 10-man Lions outfit stumbled to 9 out, all out for 100 from 32. Paul Cake top scored with 43 with extras & Michael Parker next best with 14. A nice moment in the middle of the innings as the Cake’s batted together, with Brady getting his first senior runs (3). Steve Rennie (11) also posted double figures. Ian Southall was the Tigers best with 5/14 from 8 overs.
Ibi Glibanovic, in his first game for the season, opened and got the Lions off to a great start dismissing Collins at 1/3. Paul Cake (2/8 off 8.) and Ron Whitney (2/14 off 8.) were at their economical best and took 4 wickets to have the Tigers stuttering at 5/54. Paul Woodall (32*) did the bulk of the damage that followed as he got a hold of Glibanovic’s 2nd spell and some of Gaut’s overs to get Mirboo home comfortably with 5 wickets in hand and 6 overs to spare.
