Premier B Grade vs Thorpdale
Thorpdale Innings:
Thorpdale won the toss and batted first. Daniel Farmer (1/28 off 9) & Robert Blunt (0/10 off 7 first spell) started well for the Lions but only could manage the solitary breakthrough (Durkin 19). Ferguson (6) was run out by Blunt to have the Blues 2/46. Kayne O’Connell (64) survived a couple of big lbw appeals off of Blunt, but offered nothing else to the fielding side on his way to his 5th half century of the season. At the other end Matt Powell (57) hit his 4th score of 47+ as the pair put on 101 for the 3rd wicket. Both were dismissed along with Millsom (0) in a 3/8 patch to make it 5/155. Zac O’Connell (24*) & Trent Gibson (15*) added an unbeaten 38 to see the home side close 5/193 from their 45 overs. Leading wicket taker Jarryd Atkinson took 2/29 whilst Farmer & Garry Edwards (1/23) each took a scalp.
Moe Innings:
Moe’s chase was a card full of starts. Randy Straughair (5) fell first (1/7) before Evan Sheekey (37) & Jarryd Atkinson (24) added 43 for the second wicket. Mark Whitney 33, Blunt 15, Edwards 18 & Kye Micallef 11 all reached double figures on the way to Moe posting 8/160 in their allotted inning, going down by 33 runs. Shannon Pickering 3/25 & Powell 3/19 took multiple scalps for Thorpdale.
Summary:
Tough loss and Moe now sit in the relegation zone in 9th. A big fortnight ahead with games against 8th and 10th to potentially achieve safety with the final two games following against 1st and 2nd both away. Winning the next two is critical.
