Premier B Grade Round 18 – 24/02

1st March 2024

 Premier B Grade – vs Centrals (A)

8th Moe lost to 7th Boolarra last week. They could not afford another slip against 9th and bottom placed Centrals this week. Two of the younger A’s squad players, Jesse Pheeney & Jordan Shields, played B’s against Centrals when A’s had the bye in October, and did so again this week facing the same opposition.

Moe Innings:

Centrals B’s have Pheeney’s number, as he made a 15-ball duck (0), his second against them in two games. Evan Sheekey (10) was Perera’s second scalp at 2/23. Pat Spiteri (29) put on 48 for the 3rd stand with Josh Keyhoe to stabilise the innings before the next pairing took hold.

Keyhoe (105 off 110) then proceeded to take bowlers to all parts of Apex Park, blasting 8 fours and 3 sixes on his way to his first century for Moe. He was ably supported by Jordan Shields, who made 40 off 49 in a 120 run 4th wicket pairing with Keyhoe.

Both fell in quick succession before Randy Straughair (8* off 10) & Josh Pickering (9* off 8.) closed Moe’s inning at 5/217 from the allotted 45. Perera 2/14 (9) was clearly Centrals’ best bowler on the day.

Centrals Innings:

Henry (7) & Slimmon (1) fell at opposite ends with the score on 9 to set the run chase off to a shocking start for the hosts. Shankland (26 off 60) & White (29 off 87) were the only real stands of defiance for Centrals, stuttering to 5/95 off 38 overs before losing 5/5 to be all out for 100.

Josh Pickering (3/9 off 6.5) wrapped up the tail with 2 wickets in the 42nd over after a tight first spell. Daniel Farmer (2/19 off 7) and Jarryd Atkinson (1/24 off 9) continue to take wickets whilst Ben McCartney (2/21 off 9) found some of his early season form. Mark Whitney (1/7 off 5) took one of his own and Shields got a magnificent run out to end White’s inning.
