Premier B Grade – vs Ex Students
Moe Innings:
Moe won the toss and batted first. It was an innings that never got going. Pheeney (20 off 61) rode his luck early, got a solid start batting almost half the innings before being caught and bowled to finish the 21st over. Prior to that dismissal at 5/46, he’d already lost 4 partners (Straughair 4, Atkinson 8, Finn 6, De Vent (0).
Mark Whitney (20*) & Shannon Murphy (19) batted from 21 overs gone to the 42nd, adding 40 runs in that time. In the last 20 balls of the innings, Moe could only muster a further 2/12 (Blunt (0), Micallef 8*) to close 7/98 from their full 45 over inning. Millington took 5/18 off 9 as the Sharks dominant bowler.
Ex Students Innings:
After lunch, the hosts chased the total in a relative hurry. Richards (15) & Jaensch added 42 for the first stand before Atkinson got the breakthrough with Richards falling to a sharp Whitney catch at mid on. Jaensch (61 off 71) & Trease (7) added 44 with the former doing the majority of the damage before being caught behind, again to Atkinson (2/34 off 9), who now sits on 27 wickets for the year, leading the league by 6 with one round to go. Ben McCartney (1/25 off 4.5) got the only other wicket trapping Trease with one that stayed low. McCormick 6* & Robertson 7* saw out the win for Students.
Despite the loss, Moe actually moved up out of the relegation zone (0.01 in danger, to 0.02 in safety). To avoid relegation, the Lions need to beat 2nd placed Thorpdale and hope Glengarry don’t beat Churchill by too much to overtake them, or lose to a lesser degree than Glengarry if both lose. Huge final day coming up.
