Premier C Grade – Moe v Rovers
Last year’s first time meeting saw Rovers cruising at 1/100 (20) when the rain came at Traralgon. The second meeting was a thriller on the Racecourse hard deck, with Rovers winning on the final ball, 9 wickets down. Would there be the same drama on the Racecourse Turf this week?
Rovers Innings
The visitors won the toss and batted. It was very slow going with some very tight bowling from the Moe youngsters. Brady Cake went for a respectable 2 an over, bowling out his allotted 8 with 0/16. Aiden Savige’s figures were remarkable in his first game of the season. 8 overs, 7 maidens, 1 wicket for 2 runs. It was Ronnie Whitney-like. Speaking of Ronnie, he bowled 8 overs in almost the same fashion. 4 maidens, 1 wicket, 6 runs. Master & apprentice.
Stuie Palmer did the damage to the middle order, taking 4/11 from his 8 overs. Frank Manduci (2/9 off 4) & Mustafa Glibanovic (2/16 off 3) got in on the action late, Glibanovic taking the key wicket of B.Donoghue (25) who was the only bat to reach double figures. Extras second top scored with 15 as Rovers were bundled out slowly, for 63, but using up 39 of their 40 overs. In an advantage of the records updating, it’s likely to see players play on a little longer or return to reach another key milestone in their career. Manduci moved two steps closer to the 250 club, 12 more wickets to go.
Moe Innings
The Lions sent their youth in to chase the modest total and they did it with ease. Matt Burridge (7) was the only wicket to fall as the total was achieved in 18 overs. Mustafa Glibanovic made 19* and Kye Micallef 25* posted his highest ever senior score.
Moe sit top of Prem C after two rounds (2 wins, 1 by forfeit) and face unbeaten Glengarry (1 win, 1 washout draw) on the Racecourse Turf next week.
Weekend Comments
A superb weekend for the Lions, all 3 grades winning on the same day for the first time since November 18 last season.
Let’s do it again this Saturday
