Premier A Grade – vs Glengarry
Moe Innings: 9/149 (50)
Moe batted first and lost Baldi (1) early to Waack-Hawkins (1/13 off 5). It was a cagey period for the Lions with just 11 runs off the first 8 overs of the 10 over powerplay. Wickets fell in regular intervals from 1/29 to 7/77 as batters made a few starts before being dismissed. (Pheeney 11, Philip 18, Zomer 5, Kane 16, Keyhoe 3, Grant golden duck).
At 7/77, Rob Phoenix (#6) was joined by #9 Paddy Spiteri at the crease. The tail almost doubled the tally before running out of overs, adding 2/72 to finish 9/149 from their 50 overs. Phoenix hit his first half century (51*) since returning to the club last season, with support – and further starts – from Spiteri (15), Johnstone (10) & Blunt (5*). Freitag (3/33), Jenkin (2/20) and Merton (2/28) took multiple wickets.
Glengarry Innings: 2/150 (31)
A vastly different approach to the powerplay as Frank Marks & Alastair Jenkin came out swinging, sending every bowler over the fence. After 8 overs, Glengarry were 0/61 with Marks already 42*. The 9th over was bowled by Robert Blunt, the 5th bowler used already to this point. Marks hit him for 6 on the 4th ball of the over then chopped on on the last delivery, to be dismissed for 48. Needing 83 off 41 overs, Jenkin (58) & Nathan Freitag (24*) took a calm approach, knocking plenty of 1’s around to easily accumulate the total in just 31 overs, with Sam Marks (6*) joining Freitag in the finish when Jenkin was dismissed with just 15 runs to get. Aaron Johnstone (1/31) took the only other wicket.
Premier B Grade – vs Glengarry
️ B’s Debut: Brady Cake
At home, B Grade didn’t fair any better against the Magpies. Glengarry batted first, with the inning headlined by Paul Henry (62). At 1/71, the visitors were well on top before Jarryd Atkinson took 3 wickets in the space of 10 runs to get the Lions back into it. Ben McCartney got the breakthrough of Henry at 5/104. Atkinson took his 4th (Hodson 28) at 130 to start a collapse of 4/14 to make it 9/144, with Glengarry closing at 9/152 (45). Atkinson took 4/24 (9) and Mark Whitney 2/11 (4).
Unfortunately not much to write about in the Lions inning, with just Paul Cake (15), Randy Straughair (10) and Brodyn Blandford (10) making double figures as the hosts were dismissed for 70. Porter 3/16, Sands 2/7, Bonacci 2/8 and Henry 2/12 all took multiple wickets for Glengarry.
Premier C Grade – vs Traralgon West
Traralgon West batted first and it was all Moe. Just Greg Stephens (18) & extras (12) reaching double figures. Kristen Turrell bowled Burridge (2) & Schultz (2) to reduce the Lions to 2/7. Glibanovic (6) fell at 3/12. Skipper Shannon Murphy (29*) & Matt Gaut (2) added 26 for the 4th wicket before Gaut was run out. Rennie (4*) joined Murphy through to the target. 17 extras in Moe’s inning of 4/62 (26).
