U14’s report by coach Paul Cake
Well we finally got a start to our season on a lovely Wednesday evening vs Willow Grove, our players were all keen to finally get a start.
Moe the won toss by captain Tyler Duff and he decided to have a bowl first, things started off well with an early wicket in the 3rd over with the score on 1/14 with Brady Cake making the breakthrough. Steady bowling by all bowlers then saw Hayden Schultz pick up a wicket and 2 overs later we picked up another from the bowling of Blake McKinnon the boys were up and about. Willow Grove were in trouble at 3/34. A big congratulations to these 3 boys who all have picked up their first U14’s wickets, Brady who had come up from U12’s and Blake & Hayden who are in there 2nd year of U14’s cricket well done boys. Willow grove then steady for a number of overs until Tyler duff stepped and grabbed himself a wicket and left the grove on 4/56, they then settled and closed out there 20 over allotment and were sitting on 4/66. Overall the fielding effort was pretty good, we held our chances that came our way.
Then it was our turn to bat, trying to get the boys to bat out the 20 overs, as to allow us to continue next week, unfortunately for us this wasn’t to be with Willow Grove bowling some nice line & length made it hard to get the runs flowing. Things started promising with Kye Micallef & Sam Shields opening the batting, but from that point on it was a steady flow of wickets with only the one batsmen to make it to double figures and that was Brady Cake who came in it No 4 and remained 12no and the end of the innings, Sam Shields was next best with 7. Which left us all out for 39.
Still the game goes on and next we have to continue our bowling effort as willow grove will be back in to bat.
