The Moe Cricket Club would like to pay tribute to Brian Gregory, a much loved member of our local sporting community.
Brian was the proud owner of Gregory Sports in Newborough for over 30 years, serving generations of athletes, families, and clubs with his dedication, kindness, & unwavering support. Gregory Sports was never just a business. In Brian’s hands, it grew into a hub of connection, guidance & support. A true pillar of sporting life in our community.
Those who knew Brian also knew that a “quick trip” into Gregory Sports was anything but quick. Brian loved a yarn, and with his trademark stutter and big smile, he could turn a simple purchase into a half-hour catch-up on life, cricket, and the community. You always had to allow yourself plenty of time when you dropped by the shop!
For such a small sports store, it was extraordinary how Brian always seemed to have exactly what you were after. No matter how unusual or insignificant the item, he’d produce it with ease & he always knew the exact spot where it was in the store, even if it had been there for over twenty years. That uncanny memory and attention to detail became as legendary as his generosity & good humour.
Beyond the counter, Brian’s passion for community and cricket was evident in the countless ways he supported Moe Cricket Club and many other sporting groups. Whether it was supplying gear, lending a hand, or encouraging young players to chase their dreams, Brian left a mark that will not be forgotten.
We extend our deepest condolences to Brian’s family, friends, and loved ones. His contribution to sport in our region is immeasurable, and his legacy will live on every time a young cricketer takes the field with a bat or ball from Gregory Sports.
Rest in peace, Brian. Thank you for the gear, the chats, and the laughs. You will always be remembered fondly.
